Keeping your skin clear during vacations - Cum sa iti pastrezi tenul curat in vacante

Keeping your skin clear is a real challenge especially on vacations, when you don't have much time to take care of it how you should. Maybe you don't have the time to wash your face during the day and the impurities and dust particles accumulate in the pores. This could lead to break-outs and black points, but I'll show you what I do to keep things under control. I don't say thay these are the best products on the market, it's just what I use and works great for me. I have to specify from the begining that my skin is oily in the T zone and senzitive on the rest of the face.

The first thing I do every morning and the last thing in the evening is wash my face with the Cleansing gel from Avene Cleanance. I just apply it on the wet face and let it foam for about 1 minute. I've tried a lot of washing gels until now but this is the best I found. You really feel that the face is deeply cleaned and all the grease is removed. If your skin is normal, you might not like it very much as it can dry it. If that happens, it's recommended to use it only once a day.
After washing my face I use the ultra-active spot cream from Gerovital Stop Acne with salicylic acid and I like it because the pimples disappear until the evening if I don't have serious problems.
Then I apply some face cream from Avene called Cleanance Expert that nourishes my skin and also helps me keep the acne under control.

These products work best if you take some extra care of your skin once a week and apply some masks to help you remove deeper impurities. I've been using the clay powder from Asla Vital for a few years and it's still my favourite. They say you can use it once or twice a week. You get the powder in some small envelopes that don't occupy much space and you'll be able to take them with you anywhere you go. The content of an envelope is enough for about 4 masks. You're going to waste a lot of product if you use it all at once because it's too much for one use. I usually put a teaspoon of powder in just a few drops of water and mix it and them apply it on the face. You can also mix the powder with cold green tea or lemon juice or different face creams, depending on what you want for your face.

Last but not least, I want to tell you about the most effective solution for removing black points from the nose. I've recently discovered this product and started loving it after 2 or 3 uses. I tried all kind of masks and nose strips and nothing really worked like this one. It's called Egg Pore Tightening Cooling Pack from Tony Moly and I got it at a much better price than Sephora from Iherb with free shipping and an extra 5% discount with code KON8319.
I apply it on the face and wash it after about 20 minutes. The results are not visible from the first use, but in a few weeks you'll be thrilled to notice that your black points are all gone. You might tend to say that it's expensive for the quantity in the package but it's definitely not, as you need a small amount of product to cover the whole nose (about the size of a pea - see it in the pictures below). This product works great if applied in a thin layer.

Of course that all these products are too big to take with me in all my trips so I use refillable bottles most of the times. They're great to take on the plane in the hand luggage as they're all 100 ml and under. You can find a set similar to mine here

I'd love to hear what are the best products you use for your skin as I'm always in search of something new and I like trying everything and also if you have any other skin care tips for traveling.

One day trip to Brugge - Excursie de o zi in Bruges

How to get from Brussels to Brugge -  Cum sa ajungi din Bruxelles in Bruges
It's very easy getting there by train. It takes about an hour and there are trains every 20-30 minutes from Gare du Midi (Zuid station). You must know that during weekends (from 19pm on Friday to Sunday night) all train tickets in Belgium are 50% off. So we got our 2 way weekend tickets Brugge-Brussels for 15€.

After you exit the train station you will just need to go with the flow. Everyone goes in the same direction. There will pe a park on the left and one on the right. Go through the one on the right, it's called Minnewater park and it's a great place to spend some time enjoying a walk by the lake. As you go to the city center you will find the Lake of Love, a beautiful lake with swans.

Toata lumea merge in aceeasi directie.

You must know that Brugge is a small city and you will be able to go everywhere by feet. Once you are closer to the center, you will see touristic maps everywhere on the streets so it's difficult to miss the main objectives. Right from the begining, you will be fascinated by the small streets full of alluring shops, the coloured buildings and the boats full of tourists exploring the channels.

We arrived near the city center at about 12:20. All the objectives are closed around 13-14 o'clock as they have lunch break. So we left the city center for later. Firstly, we went to Rozenhoedkaai, the best spot for taking pictures. You can see why.

We were heading to the windmills. They are in the city's outskirts and you will have to walk for about 25 minutes to them. There are more windmills but you can only visit one of them if you pay 2€, Sint-Janshuis Mill, a grain mill that was built in 1770. You can still climb the stairs of the other ones, without going inside, but I have to warn you that the steps are really abrupt. There used to be 29 windmills in Brugge, one per 1000 inhabitants. The majority were grain mills, some were oil mills and others were water mills. Apart from the mills, the surroundings are quiet and calming, full of green grass.

Sint-Janshuis Mill

Then we went in the Burg Square where is Hotel de Ville (the City Hall) and Basilica of the Holly Blood. The city hall was built in gothic style in 1376. At the ground floor is an exhibition that illustrates the evolution of the Burg Square. Near it is the basilica where you will find a vial with a drop of Jesus Christ's blood, brought here in 1149 from Jerusalem. It is shown to the christians every day between 11:30-12:00 and 14:00-16:00.

Apoi am mers in Piata Burg, unde se gasesc Hotel de Ville (Primaria) si Bazilica Sfantului Sange. Primaria a fost construita in stil gotic in anul 1376. Este aratat crestinilor in fiecare zi intre orele 11:30-12:00 si 14:00-16:00
Brugge City Hall
Basilica of the Holy Blood
Next we went in the Market Square where is the great Belfort or Belfry tower. It is 83m tall and you will have to climb 366 steps to the top for a lovely view of the city. On the way you will discover an impressive clockwork mechanism and a carillon with 47 bells.

No journey to Brugge is complete without a boat trip on the channels. It's a lovely experience plus you get to see most of the objectives from the water. Also it's very relaxing.

Our final stop was at The Beerwall, a beer bar that we heard a lot about and is absolutely a must-go. You enter it on a gray carpet while being fascinated by the hundreds of types of beers on the wall. Then you go in and don't know what to order because there are too many options. Finally, you choose something and enjoy it on the nice terrace by the channel. You wish to stay there forever because the beer is too good and everything is simply perfect. I chose the coconut beer that is served in what else than...a coconut!

I will end with something I should have started with: Brugge is also called the Venice of the North. Maybe this is too much to say because Venice is all about channels, but the trip to Brugge is definitely mesmerizing and you should add it to the list if you ever go to Belgium!

2 days in Brussels - 2 zile in Bruxelles

Brussels. the capital of the European Union, is an amazing place to go any time of the year. And I'm saying this because the weather there is very unprediclable and one moment it's a most beautiful sunny day and the next moment it could start raining for just a little and then it would stop and it'd be sunny again. So it doesn't matter very much if you visit Belgium in spring, summer or fall because it's kind of the same. You just need to be lucky.

The first thing you should to once you get there is to attend Btussels' free city tour by Sandemans. You should book it online in advance and select there the date and the time. I promise that you won't regret it. Brussels' main objectives are all very close to each other but it's very easy to miss them as you don't always know where to look. Our guided tour lasted for 3 beautiful hours and we learned a lot about the city while walking through it. Fraser was our guide and we liked him a lot, he was so passionate about everything and made us love Brussels from the first second. 'Grand Place' or 'The Big Square' is the zero point of the city and here's where you'll meet with your guide, in front of the big tower of the city hall.

So our tour started in Grand Place where you can admire plenty of important buildings. Here you'll find Hotel de Ville (the city hall), Maison du Roi (the king's house) where currently is the City Museum, Belgian Brewers Museum, some terraces where you can stop to eat and drink. Around  this square start lot of small streets full of shops and bars.

Turul nostru a inceput in Grand Place, unde puteti admira o multime de cladiri importante.

Near Grand Place is Everard t'Serclaes statue whose forearm you have to touch. It's a local hero that makes everyone's wishes come true. Moreover, if you touch its forearm you assure your return in Brussels.

Mai mult, daca ii atingeti antebratul va asigurati revenirea in Bruxelles.

Manneken-Pis is the city's symbol. It represents a little boy peeing and the legend sais that the spot where it's placed used to be the market where little children would sell their urine. Brussels used to be an important spot on the world map where urine was sold for the ammonia that was hard to obtain those days. You might be a little disappointed to see that the statue is very small and secured with bars so you will only see it from the distance. That is because it was stolen 7 times until now.

The feminine version of this statue is Jeanneke-Pis, an ever smaller statue which you will find on one of the small streets if you wander around the Grand Place.

Our guide also showed us La Bourse, near which you will find the oldest church in town - St. Nicholas - and also the best place to eat belgian fries.

Then we went to Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert where you will find some covered streets, full of shops where you can get lost for a little while.

On our way to Mont des Arts, we stoped to admire the imposing Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula, a Roman Catholic church built in gothic style.

In drumul nostru spre Mont des Arts, ne-am oprit  sa admiram impunatoarea  Catedrala Sf. Michael si Sf. Gudula, o biserica romano-catolica in stil gotic.

We also passed by the Royal Palace, which is free to visit all August except Mondays, as the royal family goes on vacation this month.

Am trecut si pe langa Palatul Roial, pe care il puteti vizita gratuit toata luna august exceptand zilele de luni, deoarece in aceasta luna familia roiala pleaca in vacanta.

Mont des Arts (the Mountain of Arts) was the last stop of our tour. From here, you have a beautiful view of the city and you will also find the chime here.

Mont des Arts (Muntele Artelor) a fost ultima oprire a turului nostru.

The Jacquemart Carillon clock is on the arch between the Palace of Congress and the Palace of Dynasty. It has 24 bells and 12 statues representing important figures of Belgium. On the top of the clock is a bronze moving statue weighing 1750 kg, that beats the bell every hour.

As our guide recommended, we then headed to the Palace of Justice, the place with the most beautiful view of the city. On our way, we saw the Notre-Dame Cathedral which is located in the bohemian district of Sablon. Near it, you will also find MIM (the Musical Instruments Museum), a museum we heard a lot about and wished to visit. Inside it, you will find a lot of rare instruments disposed on 4 floors. You receive an audio guide and when you are close to an instrument in starts playing. Also, there is a great view of the city at the top. Unfortunately, they had a problem with the audio guides that wasn't going to be fixed until middle September so we didn't go inside.

You can spend some time in the district of Sablon and walk in Petit Sablon park and Grand Sablon square. The buildings and the streets will fascinate you and you will also be able to experience a little of the genuine belgian life.

Puteti petrece putin timp in cartierul Sablon si sa va plimbati in parcul Micului Sablon sau in Piata Marelui Sablon.

We arrived at the Palace of Justice, the perfect spot to watch the sunset. The views are spectacular. Here you'll also find a glass elevator that will get you down in the city for free.

In between everything, we admired the street art of Brussels, which believe me, it's everywhere. From mural paintings to sculptures and statues that are basically at every step, Brussels always has something to say.

In the evening we returned to Grand Place. The streets are so beautiful in the evening, full of murmur, full of art, full of life, full of lights. It was the place we went back to every night and still couldn't get enough of it. The city hall and the buildings near it are even more beautiful in the dark.

On the second day we went to Atomium, where you can only get by metro as it is 6 km far from Grand Place. It is 102 m tall and it has a panorama over the city. We waited for about 20 minutes to buy the tickets and then for another 20 minutes to get to the elevator that goes to the top. This elevator used to be one of the fastest in Europe, going up 92 m in 22 seconds. After seeing the panorama which honestly isn't very spectacular from 92 m, we continued our visit in the 3 other spheres which are open to the public. Here you will find an exposition of photographs, documents and models from the original event for which the atom was created. In my opinion, Atomium isn't one of the must-go places in Brussels. It wasn't spectacular and if you don't have much time to spend in the city you don't miss very much if you don't come here. There are plenty of other beautiful places to see.

Are 102 m inaltime si ofera o panorama a orasului.
Mini Europe seen from the Atomium

Then we went to Mini Europe to take a mini trip through the European Union. All models are built down to the finest detail at a scale of 1:25.

Another must see is the European Parliment. Some rooms can be visited but only if you make a reservation 3 months in advance. There is also the Parlamentarium, the visitors center that can be visited for free and without reservation.

There are two last things to do for your full belgian experience: drink belgian beer and eat waffles. There is a wide variety of both. In Belgium, they drink each beer from its special glass. If you cannot decide which one to choose, you can buy from most bars a tray of 6 or 8 different types of beer in smaller glasses. The waffles never made it in a picture because they were just too good not to be eaten right away.
